Innersense: The Epitome of a Clean Beauty Brand

In the Spring of 2016, I began switching to safer products after learning about how many toxic chemicals are in our shampoos, conditioners, body lotions, skincare, make-up etc. While over 1400 ingredients are banned in the EU, the FDA only bans 30 ingredients from personal care products in the U.S. Over the past 2+ years, I have switched over my personal care products, and household cleaning products to safer options. I really appreciate brands that are extremely transparent about every single ingredient that is utilized in their products. Instead of mysteriously listing "fragrance," every single ingredient is listed which I appreciate. Also, all of their products are extremely concentrated. A little goes a long way (really and truly). The 32oz sizes of the shampoo and conditioner last me a full year (and I share these with my husband.)

I first found out about Innersense through curly hair influencer, @hif3licia. I remember she raved about her love of Innersense products which prompted me to check out the brand. The founders of Innersense are committed to informing consumers about cleaner and safer options. Innersense provides non-toxic beauty to customers. I have tried almost all of the products in the Innersense range, but will focus on my favorites below.

Shampoo

Hydrating Cream Hairbath

Innersense shampoos are referred to as "hairbaths." The hydrating hairbath is creamy and extremely moisturizing.  If you have dry, thirsty, hair, you will LOVE this product. I remember calling the customer service line for Innersense and was pleasantly surprised to hear that I was speaking to one of the co-founders JoAnne Starkman. I mentioned that I enjoyed the Pure Inspiration Shampoo and Conditioner, but felt my hair needed more moisture. She shared that they were releasing a hydrating line within the next week and allowed me to order the products over the phone even though they had not been released yet! I enjoy the scent. It is hard to describe but it isn't overpowering and does not linger.

Would I re-purchase this product? Absolutely. This product is hands-down, no questions asked, my FAVORITE cleanser. (Also note this product can be used on color-treated hair.)

Color Awakening Hairbath

This shampoo has a completely different texture from the others. With this shampoo, it comes out somewhat clear. My stylist recommended that I emulsify the product in my hands first before applying it to my scalp to create a lather. I really enjoy this scent (which is also hard to describe) as it is sort of earthy/spa-like.  The scent does not linger.  If you have color-treated hair, this is a great shampoo to use as it will help to preserve your color while cleansing your scalp and hair.  I enjoy using this shampoo when I have some product build-up and really want to clarify my scalp. I would classify this shampoo as a clarifying shampoo as opposed to a moisturizing one. You definitely want to follow it up with a conditioner.

Would I re-purchase this product? Yes. I got pintura highlights in January 2018 and again in September 2018.  I use this as a clarifying shampoo that will preserve my hair color.

Conditioner

Color Radiance Conditioner
The color radiance conditioner is less thick than the hydrating hairbath. It is designed for color-treated hair, but could still be effective even if your hair isn't color-treated. It has great slip and I am able to detangle my hair with my fingers in the shower. I usually just leave this conditioner in for 1-3 minutes before rinsing it out.  A great thing about Innersense conditioners is that they can be left in! (As an aside, I prefer to use their Sweet Spirit Leave-In Conditioner as a Refresher Spray.) So feel free to leave your conditioner in! This conditioner leaves my hair soft and moisturized.

Would I re-purchase this product? Yes. This is a good staple every day rinse-out or leave-in conditioner. And I really really love the scent of this line.

Hydrating Conditioner

The hydrating conditioner is super concentrated and thick. In fact is so thick I end up using very little product and I continue to add water to spread the product into my hair.  If your hair is craving major moisture, this is the conditioner for you. One drawback is the product is so thick, it is very difficult for me to dispense it through the pump. My recommendation would be for Innersense to either change the pump on this product or to put this product in a different container like a jar or tub. When I was deep into my Bikram Yoga Challenge this was a holy grail item for me as my hair was craving moisture and hydration after being in the heated studio.

Would I re-purchase this product? Yes. I enjoy using this product in the fall/winter.

Oil

Harmonic Healing Oil

"How many ways, I love youuuuu. Let me count the ways..." The sweet sounds of Toni Braxton come to mind when I think of the Harmonic Healing Oil. (Shoutout to Shamar Moore in the crop top on the beach in the music video.) Okay back to the oil. This oil is a treatment oil designed to increase moisture. It has a soothing and calming scent that I absolutely adore. There are many ways that you can use this oil.

1) Incorporate into your scalp massages
2) Add several drops to your conditioner
3) Use to add shine to your hair
4) Use to scrunch out the gel cast on curly hair
5) Apply to skin and nails

Also, if there is a little bit of extra oil on your hands after you apply it, use it to moisturize your cuticles and hands!

Would I re-purchase this product? YES, YES AND YES. I adore this oil.

Curious about Innersense? Most of their products come in 2oz sizes. Order travel sizes to see how you enjoy the products! You can also click here to find a salon in your area that sells Innersense products! Happy shopping!
