CurlyWorld LLC Product Review
Like many other curlies, I was chomping at the bit to try Lorraine Massey's new product line. The line is free from sulfates, silicones, parabens, mineral oil, and phthalates. Lorraine Massey is an icon in the curly hair industry as she is the founder of Devacurl. She created the infamous book entitled Curly Girl: The Handbook. She is the creator of the Curly Girl Method and the Devacut. (A Devacut is done on dry hair in its naturally curly state. This curl by curl cut is personalized. My favorite salon in the DMV is Diaspora Salon in Baltimore, MD. Shoutout to Yasmine (my stylist) and Leah (my Aunt's stylist)! Back to the product review....Of the four products, I love two out of four, namely the Sham-Free Hair and Scalp Cleanser, and With or Without Hue Cool Blue Illuminating Conditioner.
Sham-Free Hair and Scalp Cleanser
This cleanser is divine. It feels like a co-wash. It doesn't have suds. Yet, after using it my scalp felt cleansed and my hair felt moisturized. When I shampoo, I focus exclusively on my scalp as the product will run down the lengths of my hair. I didn't have to use a ton of product to get the job done. I suspect this pouch will last me a long time. I should get at least 20 uses out of it. Time will tell.
Would I change anything about this product? Yes, I would change the packaging. The packaging is unique as it comes in pouches as opposed to bottles or jars. It was much easier to use than I anticipated which is positive. Yet and still I much prefer to use bottles for my cleansers.
Would I re-purchase this cleanser? Probably. I love that it doesn't make my hair feel stripped. The price is relatively comparable to my favorite cleansers from Innersense. I like this product more than the Innersense Color Radiance Cleanser but I'm not sure if it surpasses the Innersense Hydrating Hairbath. Read more about my love of Innersense here.
With or Without Hue Cool Blue Illuminating Conditioner
This product is excellent for color-treated hair to reduce brassiness. In January 2018, I dyed my hair for the first time by getting pintura (hand-painted) highlights. I love leaving this in for the recommended 2-5 minutes because it addresses my brassy tones and helps me maintain my hair color. I've used other similar products and this one surpasses them all! I also have gotten A TON of uses out of this pouch. If your hair tends to look brassy or orange, consider trying this blue conditioner!
Would I change anything about this product? Yes I would change the packaging. I would much prefer a bottle.
Would I re-purchase this product? Absolutely. I wash my hair 2x a week and use this faithfully 1x a week.
Terms and Conditions (conditioner) and Leave-in Lover (Gel)
My reaction to both of these products was the same. I used the conditioner as a leave-in (it can also be rinsed out) and even after applying ample product and water, my hair did not feel very moisturized. It felt like the conditioner was sitting on top of my hair strands. The gel was runny and didn't clump or define my curls. As my hair began to dry, I saw lots of frizz and ended up having to add gels from other lines. (I can tell both when I set my hair and once it starts air drying whether my wash day will be good or bad.) In this instance, I knew I needed products with a little more weight for me to get the results I was seeking.
Would I re-purchase these products? No. I have other stylers that I love and use regularly so I don't see the need to re-purchase these. I wonder if these stylers might work better for curlies in the 2a-3b range?
