Ny's Natural Product Line Review
Do you find out about product lines often from instagram? I do because I follow
a host of hair brands and hair influencers on IG and YouTube. Because of this, I
found out about a line called
Ny's Natural Products
by
@sparklecreation101
from a post by
@chiaricurls. Her hair
always looks gorgeous. While our hair textures and preferred styles are different, I continue to learn a
wealth of information from her. This past summer, she posted a twist-out (check out her post from
June, 18, 2020) using the Leave-In Conditioner and Styling Nectar which prompted
me to reach out to the founder of Ny's Natural Products. The founder was extremely kind and promptly sent
me four products. Keep reading if you are interested in learning about a black-owned-brand with products that are free of sulfates, silicones, parabens
and mineral oil.
Shampoo (12 oz) The shampoo cleanses your scalp without stripping your hair which is every
natural's dream. It is pretty runny so be mindful as you squeeze it out of the
bottle. I've used it many times and have barely made a dent in the product which
is a testament to how concentrated this product is. This is the type of shampoo
that you could use weekly without losing moisture in your hair. I like that this
bottle and the conditioner bottle are 12oz instead of the typical 8oz because
you get more for your money. The scent of this product line is a little hard to
describe. It is sort of smells like fruit but there are other fragrances in
there that I cannot quite detect. For me, I am very picky about fragrance. If
you are someone who likes strong fragrances (sort of similar in strength
to Bath and Body Works or NYC Curls for those of you who have used those products in the
past) then you will enjoy this line.
Do I recommend this product? Yes, it is a moisturizing shampoo that will
cleanse your scalp effectively without your hair feeling stripped.
Will I re-purchase this product? No but only because I am 5 years into my
natural hair journey and already have some favorite cleansers. But if you are
still on the hunt for a moisturizing cleanser, give this one a try.
Conditioner (12 oz)
Of all of the products, this one is likely my favorite (and I used this one the
most). It has great slip, likely due to the inclusion of marshmallow, slippery
elm bark, avoacdo oil, babassu oil, and jojoba oil. I also like that rosemary
and lavender, two essential oils that stimulate hair growth, are included in
this conditioner as well. This is a rinse-out conditioner that you leave in for
3-5 minutes before rinsing and applying your styling products. This product
helped me immensely several months ago when I was in dire need of a trim. During that timeframe, I used this as a rinse-out conditioner before I applied
my deep conditioner, so that I could effectively detangle my raggedy ends. While I have not yet used this
product as a pre-poo, I bet it would be really great as a pre-poo in an effort
to detangle your hair at the beginning of your wash day.
Do I recommend this product? Yes.
Will I re-purchase this product? No because I have another
conditioner I prefer to use as a rinse-out or leave-in that is more
concentrated. But if you are looking for a true rinse-out conditioner and want
to support a brand with safe/clean ingredients, you should give this one a try.
Leave-In Conditioner (8oz) The leave-in conditioner has a host of
excellent ingredients that create great slip and moisture including slippery
elm, marshmallow root and aloe vera juice. I like that shea butter appears in
the middle of the ingredient list. The texture of the leave-in conditioner is
similar to what you might expect. It is pretty thick (so if you turn the bottle
upside down, it won't move around too much and has great slip.) The leave-in
conditioner left my hair feeling soft and moisturized.
Would I recommend this product? Yes, I think it is effective and gets the
job done.
Will I re-purchase this product? No, largely because I have another
product that I can use as a leave-in or rinse-out that is my favorite.
Styling Nectar (8oz) The Styling Nectar provides light hold. The star
ingredients include slippery elm bark, flaxseed gel, avocado oil, apricot oil
and jojoba oil. I really like that three moisturizing oils are used in this
product. The scent is similar to that of the rest of the products in the line.
The texture is runnier than the leave-in conditioner. It sort of reminds me of
pudding.
Would I recommend this product? Yes if you are seeking a light hold.
Will I re-purchase this product? No because I typically want a medium to
hard hold for my stylers.
I often try products that I like and work well, but I
would not necessarily re-purchase them. However, I would still recommend this line if you are seeking light hold, slip, the use of certain
essential oils etc. This product line falls in that camp for me. Most of the
women I've seen use these products use them for twist-outs and have amazing
success like @chiaricurls. So if you love a good twist-out, and like what you
see on the gram from this product line, give it a try. Also, it looks like the founder recently dropped a new
Flaxseed Moisturizing Cream that looks like it is perfect for twist-outs.
